Uncertainty in Medical Visualization: Modeling, Visual Encoding, and Interactive Analysis
There is currently no machine that can provide us with perfectly certain medical imaging data. Errors from multiple sources including noise, patient movement, and partial volume effect due to limited resolution are polluting the data. Since medical experts rely on these images to bring conclusions about the existence and severity of a potential disease, we aim to provide approaches to convey these errors.

We develop methods to systematically analyze the sources of uncertainty in the medical visualization pipeline, classify these uncertainties by coming up with an elaborate taxonomy and develop comprehensive and intuitive visualization methods of relevant uncertainty classes for selected medical applications for which the uncertainty estimation and visualization is of great importance. Based on evaluations from people from the medical profession and others, we would then combine these visual analysis techniques in an interactive system for exploration of the aforementioned medical applications.

We are currently working on embedding of CAD objects into the environment at desired locations by implementing a new layer of data so that the addition and removal of such objects happens interactively.

We then extend the layout to include coordinated views for visualizing new attributes, such as bridge stress under load, and add interaction mechanisms to provide intuitive correlation analysis and highlighting techniques between these views.

Interactive Visualization of Eye-Tracking Data
We made an interactive visual exploration technique which is unique and very efficient approach for analysis and exploration of eye tracking data. It is composed of a set of coordinated views where each of them has a specific application and answers some common questions. The first view displays general information. The second one provides means for analysis of single or multiple participants’ fixation patterns. The third one allows for comparative analysis of participants’ data. And the final one tries to cluster the participants by calculating the distance between them in several ways. The developed software is easy and intuitive to use and provides many data exploration and data analysis techniques.
